Washington, DC - Ahead of the beginning of Passover in the US at sundown on Monday night, President Barack Obama issued "warmest greetings" from himself and First Lady Michelle Obama to those celebrating Passover "in the United States, in Israel, and around the world."  He also offered prayers for the families and friends of the three people slain on Sunday during an attack at two separate Jewish facilities in Overland Park, Kansas.

President Obama Gifts Pope Francis With A Custom-Made Seed Chest, Invites Him To White House To View The First Lady's Kitchen Garden

Vatican City - President Barack Obama on Thursday morning presented His Holiness Pope Francis with a special leather seed chest made with wood from an historic American Roman Catholic cathedral, containing velvet pouches with seeds like those used in First Lady Michelle Obama's White House Kitchen Garden.  

During his first audience with the Holy Father, 77, in the Small Throne Room, the papal library at the Apostolic Palace, Mr. Obama also invited the Pontiff to visit the White House for a close-up view of his wife's famous vegetable plot on the South Lawn.  The leader of the world's 1.2 billion Roman Catholics offered his own gifts to the President during their meeting, which lasted 52 minutes.

Washington, DC - There was no fanfare for First Lady Michelle Obama's Kitchen Garden on Thursday, which marked the fifth anniversary of the groundbreaking for the globally famous plot.  Mrs. Obama was heading to China for a week-long trip to sow the seeds of diplomacy while she promoted education and cultural exchange.  

But back home at the White House, National Park Service Gardeners were tending the South Lawn plot after a week that began with a St. Patrick's Day snowstorm.  It was the first day of Spring.
